The desire to see the end of the Ángeles Shelter for more than a hundred vulnerable children soon made it possible for the directors of the Foundations Parque Jaime Duque and Proyecto Unión to decide at a meeting, at the beginning of February, to bet on a great challenge, the realization of the first edition of the athletic race “Dreams in Construction” and so that more than a thousand people can make their mark on a child’s life.
The setting and date chosen were propitious, the nature reserve of Ecopark Sabana, a 100% natural environment of 70 hectares, surrounded by fauna, vegetation, large wetlands and the framework of the celebration of the International Children’s Day, on April 30. It was 3 months of intense preparation under the direction of Aire libre y Aventura, the leading organization in this class of events, added to the experience of the Park, in order to coordinate down to the smallest detail to make this event impeccable.
The preparation of the home, as well as the management of sponsorship, box office, t-shirts, routes, prizes, advertising, refreshments, registrations and an endless number of chores were handled daily, without rest, by a large team of work so that on April 30 at 8 in the morning, the first runners of the 10K in this inclusive race that called for the first time the participation of all ages.
Many thanks to important companies such as Adidas, Baxter, Fortecem, Kamui, Vitalis, who decided to join as sponsors and to donor companies such as Pelpak, Fundación Ladrilleros de Cogua and Gymnasio Claudio Monteverdi who made it possible to carry out this important event; as well as the participation of the members of Doctor Clown, volunteers from the Javeriana Universities and Manuela Beltrán, who with their solidarity and warmth shared with all the children and young people, families and elderly participants.
More than 1,100 participants ended this day happy and pleased to give back hope to vulnerable children of our country through sport and in a festive atmosphere of camaraderie, each participant made his mark, planted trees in the flower boxes that adorned the home and received the medal in recognition of their participation. The results were highly satisfactory for both organizers and runners, highlighting the excellent organization and logistics, however, the most important achievement of this race is to have reached the hearts of the participants and to make them realize the true value of making that indelible mark on the lives of more than a hundred children suffering from complex diseases in our country.
