On Saturday June 19, the visual health brigade for the grandparents living on the streets who benefited from the foundation was held at the headquarters of the Comedor María es mi Madre. This time, the event was in charge of Eduardo Quintero, a lawyer and accountant by profession who met our organization through Catalina Murad, a volunteer at Hogar Santa Rita de Cascia.
The vulnerability of a population that is unprotected and often forgotten by society was what motivated Eduardo to implement this initiative with our grandparents, which is why he initiated a strategy of obtaining resources through their social networks, which had an impact on friends and acquaintances who decided to contribute their bit. The economic and logistical support counted with about 30 people, in addition to the valuable contribution of Mrs. Marta Giraldo and the group “Helvéticos 1. 976”, Jorge Herrera and Olga Rueda, owners of Optica Visión y Sol, who donated the mounts. Olga also made an assessment in the brigade along with 3 optometers who were in charge of attending and generating the formulas to 130 grandparents who will be delivered in the next few days.
In addition to providing a better quality of life in terms of the visual health of the beneficiaries, the day allowed the members of the group in charge of the brigade to have a closer relationship with the grandparents, bringing them to know a little more about the life and stories they carry with them, without overlooking the difficult situation that this population is going through and the hard work they carry out in spite of the advanced age.
A great day of social work left great lessons; the willingness of a team of committed people will allow many grandparents to have the opportunity to re-read their books and even write their own stories; “To help you need to be willing, you don’t need money, you don’t need to be a specialist, is just willingness to materialize and accomplish”, said Eduardo.
Thank you Angels Volunteers for putting your heart and profession at the service of the most vulnerable. Teamwork and the desire to help has transformed many hearts that are filled with joy to allow themselves to see the world much better.
